MeasureNet introduced the Drop Counter in 2002 at the BCCE conference at Western Washington University. The MeasureNet Optical Drop Counter was the first of its kind probeware for chemistry laboratory titration experiments as a method for tracking volume.
The Optical Drop Counter reduces the maintenance issues associated with wire-based devices that count by using drops to complete an electrical circuit. Unlike other devices, the counter's optical detector is sealed in an epoxy base to reduce the risk of spill damage from acids and bases.
The device includes a holder for the pH probe and separate mount for temperature probes. Probe mounting and drop counting occur in a small-diameter area to reduce beaker size and reagents for titrations. An LED indicator mounted on the probe's top surface provides visual feedback when counting. The drop counter can also be used with a temperature probe for conducting thermometric titration experiments.
